Tres Rios Fly Fishing Lodge
The lodge commands a spectacular view from the lower slopes of Volcán Calbuco, the snowy 6500' volcano in the back yard. In front is Volcán Osorno at 8700' and Lake Llanquihue, the second largest in Chile. This remote upland setting offers utter peace and privacy with virtually no neighbors and only nature all around, yet only 15 minutes from the Rio Petrohué, and 20 minutes from Lago Todos Los Santos. There are over a dozen day-long angling options within an hour's drive of the lodge. Given an additional half hour, you could add another nine destinations.

We like to have up to 6 anglers at a time, although we can easily accommodate a group of 8. Unless friends request group floats, we will only put 2 boats on the same piece of water when they can fish opposite sides of the river and each have fresh water to cast to. With more than 8 guests we would feel obligated to have them on at least 3 different fisheries. We feel that we can do a superb job for a limited number of guests, and superb's the only way we want to do it. More than once, we have seen different lodges launch 4 boats with 8 anglers at same place at the same time, but we would never do that, nor would we fish anywhere near them. We are not part of a multinational lodge chain, nor did we start this because we thought it was a good business to make a bundle. It's about quality of life as a family, doing what we love to do in a very special place, and sharing it all. Quality of experience is what's about. Our formula for that requires all-out efforts from a dedicated and friendly staff, to see that guests have the time of their lives. We never forget that it's all about having a great (and memorable) time.
It's cliché for a lodge to boast a gourmet chef and the best food in the Western Hemisphere, so we won’t do that. If we operated only a restaurant along the highway we would be inclined to hang a green neon sign – EAT...and it would have a great following. We shy away from hype and However, to put you at ease we must mention that every guest at the lodge has compared Teresa'a creations favorably to their favorite restaurants back in New York, Boston, Chicago, San Diego, London, Zurich, and all over (see References). At Tres Rios you will eat extremely well. Almost everyone who enjoys cooking asks for recipes. Meals are delicious, healthy, bountiful, and always interesting and creative. Fresh fish and shellfish, beef, pork, and poultry, fresh homemade pastas and sauces, soufles, crepes, mousses, parfaits, real cherry, blueberry, ... blackberry pies with fresh homegrown fruit, country eggs, ... fresh brewed coffee...get the idea? Special diets are not a problem.
For the non-fishing companion there is horseback riding and hiking literally out the back door. There is whitewater rafting on the upper Petrohué. There are two volcanoes to climb either on foot or horseback for a spectacular view from above the treeline. There is an extensive handicraft fair in Puerto Montt and many boutiques in Puerto Varas for curiosity or shopping. One may simply enjoy touring the countryside or watch the scenes at a fishing port or on the farms surrounding Lago Llanquihue. The contrasts between traditional and modern Chile abound. Between the people, the contrasts, the quaint, and the panoramic, Chile is a photographer's delight. There is a scenic route to Bariloche, the Argentine ski resort town on the other side of the Andes reached by a Lakes Crossing starting at Petrohue, or one could cross Lake Todos Los Santos on a catamaran to Peulla and back for the day. And finally, if one wanted nothing more than to relax in a quiet, peaceful, beautiful place with a good book no better place can be found but the lodge itself.
Whether rafting, riding, hiking, biking, windsurfing, canyoning, kayaking, or touring: we can make reservations and arrangements with outfitters for pick-up at the lodge for all these activities.
