Your Fly Fishing Hosts at TresRios are Teresa Immediato and John Joy
Teresa was born in the desert town of Calama in northern Chile. She earned a degree in tourism at the Catholic University in Santiago, and held a key position with Paraguayan Airlines before moving to trout country with John. Quick with a witty remark and a smile, Teresa's hospitality and southern charm makes guests feel welcome and at home from the outset. Her sense of art and creativity is expressed throughout the lodge and most impressively in the table she sets. Her meals are always a high point of the day, competing with and complimenting those great moments on the water. Given our location TresRios can offer the best of the bounty that Chile has to offer: superb wines, export grade fruit and produce of the season, fresh seafood and shellfish, as well as succulent beef and lamb for which the region is famous. Come fish, relax, or be pampered, but don’t count on loosing weight!
John has been fly fishing since childhood. While backpacking in Chile in 1976 he had a chance to fish rivers around Puerto Montt and the Rio Simpson in Aysén. The magnificent and diverse scenery in Chile, the hospitality of Chileans, and the incredible trout fishing in particular, made lasting impressions on the young student. After Chile John obtained a Masters degree in Horticulture he was fortunate to hold management positions in Hawaii, Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand, California, Oregon, and Washington where his free time could be devoted to his passion for fly fishing. But images of Chilean rivers haunted him.
In 1990 he finally made good his vow to return to Chile and fished the entire seasons of 1990, 1992 and 1993. John has been living permanently in Chile since 1993 and married Teresa in 1995. In those seasons he fished most rivers from the Tolten near Temuco down to the Rio Grande in Tierra del Fuego, including Chilean coastal rivers, and the San Martin and Junin areas of Argentina. A lot of exploring was concentrated in the Coyhaique area, being one of the early members of the troutbum/guide group in that once frontier town.
Since the 1994 season he has been most intently exploring the plethora of rivers and streams in the Lakes Region. John and Teresa looked long and hard before establishing TresRios near Ensenada, and did so impressed by the diversity of fisheries and salmonid species in the area, the size and strength of wild fish in wild rivers, and the dramatic landscape of forested mountains, emerald lakes, pristine rivers and snow capped volcanoes. This is first class trout fishing in truly one of the most impressively beautiful places on the planet.
