Your Fly Fishing Hosts at Tres Rios Lodge are Teresa Immediato & John Joy
Teresa was born in the desert town of Calama in northern Chile. She earned a degree in tourism at the Catholic University in Santiago, and held a key position with Paraguayan Airlines before moving to trout country with John. Quick with a witty remark and a smile, Teresa's hospitality and southern charm makes guests feel welcome and at home from the outset. Her sense of art and creativity is expressed throughout the fly fishing lodge and most impressively in the table she sets. Her meals are always a high point of the day, competing with and complimenting those great fly fishing moments of the water. Given our location Tres Rios can offer the best of the bounty that Chile has to offer: a list of superb wines, export grade fruit and produce of the season, fresh seafood and shellfish, as well as succulent beef and lamb for which the region is famous. Come fish, relax, or be pampered, but don't count on loosing weight!
John has been fly fishing since childhood. While visiting Chile in 1976 he went fly fishing on rivers around Puerto Montt and on the Rio Simpson in Aysen. The magnificent and diverse scenery, the hospitality of Chileans, and the incredible fly fishing for trout in particular, made lasting impressions. After Chile John obtained an MS in Horticulture he was fortunate to hold management positions in agricultural operations in Hawaii, Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand, California, Oregon, and Washington, always around water where his free time could be devoted to his passion for fly fishing.
In 1990 he finally returned to Chile and has fished every season since. John has been living permanently in Chile since 1993 and married Teresa in 1995. In those seasons he went fly fishing on rivers from the Tolten near Temuco down to the Rio Grande in Tierra del Fuego, including Chilean coastal rivers, and the San Martin and Junin areas of Argentina. He was a fly fishing guide for several seasons in the Coyhaique area, being one of the early members of the troutbum/guide group in that once frontier town in Patagonia Chile.
John and Teresa looked long and hard before establishing Tres Rios Fly Fishing Lodge near Ensenada, and did so impressed by the diversity of fisheries and salmonid species in the area, the size and strength of wild fish in pristine wild rivers, and the dramatic landscape of forested mountains, emerald lakes, and snow capped volcanoes.
The Lakes Region of Chile offers world-class fly fishing in one of the most impressively beautiful places on the planet. Of all Chile, it's the perfect place to combine Fly Fishing & Adventure.
