Your Hosts At  TresRios Lodge

John Joy, has been fly fishing since the age of 10. While backpacking in Chile in 1976 he had a chance to fish rivers around Puerto Montt and the Rio Simpson in Aysén.  The magnificent and diverse scenery in Chile, the hospitality of Chileans, and the incredible trout fishing in particular, made lasting impressions on the young student, as it still does today on even the most jaded of travelers.  After Chile John obtained a Masters degree in Horticulture he was fortunate to hold management positions where his free time could be devoted to his passion for fly fishing in Hawaii, Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand, California, Oregon, and Washington.  But images of Chilean rivers haunted him.

In 1990 he finally made good his vow to return to Chile and fished the entire season of 1990, returning for the 1992 and 1993 seasons as well.  Over the seasons he fished rivers from the Llifen area right down to the Rio Grande in Tierra del Fuego, as well as the San Martin and Junin areas of Argentina.  A lot of exploring was concentrated in the Coyhaique area, being one of the early members of the trout bum/guide group in that frontier town.

John has been living permanently in Chile since 1993 and married Teresa in 1995.  Since the 1994 season he has been exploring the plethora of rivers and streams in the Lakes Region. Acknowledging the great fishing that he knows by heart in the Region of Aysén, your host and guide bets his reputation that anglers will be thrilled with what he can show them in the Lakes Region.  John and Teresa looked long and hard before establishing TresRios near Ensenada, and did so swayed by the diversity of fisheries and salmonid species in the area, the size and strength of wild fish in wild rivers, and the dramatic landscape of forested mountains, emerald lakes, pristine rivers and snow capped volcanoes.  It is truly one of the most impressively beautiful places on the planet, especially since every bit of water holds healthy trout!

Teresa Immediato was born in the desert town of Calama in northern Chile.  She studied tourism at the Catholic University in Santiago and worked fifteen years with LAP airlines.  Quick with a witty remark and a smile, she enjoys meeting new people and making them feel welcome and at home.  Perhaps the last of a disappearing race, she finds enjoyment and fulfillment in the creative culinary arts and in running an impeccable household.  Her meals are always a high point of the day, competing with and complimenting those great moments on the water.  Given our location she can offer the best of the bounty that Chile has to offer: superb wines, export grade fruit and produce of the season, fresh seafood from the port town of Puerto Montt, as well as beef for which the region is famous.  Come fish, relax, or be pampered, but don’t count on loosing weight.
